Minnesota Zoo in October and Fall Toddler Activities

Visit to the Farm at the Minnesota Zoo

Last year, when I was a little kid, I went to visit the Farm at the Minnesota Zoo. It was very fun.  I got to do lots of things with my mom. See?  I used to be so little. I’m pretty grown up now that I’m “free!” My mom says I’m three. Doesn’t she know how to say free?

So first we got there and my mom got a stroller. I could have walked but the zoo is so huge! It would have taken two days to see it all, in that case.

The goats said, “Baa-baa!” See my mom with her camera, I’m always having to say, “Cheese.”  At least I don’t have to talk like a goat.

I didn’t almost get lost in the hay maze, but I think my mom did.

There were cows.  The cows said, “Moo!” They were loud. The cow also spoke in French when it said, “Meuh!” The cow was bilingual, just like me and my mom!

My mom needed some help driving the tractor.  I’m always so busy helping her!

When I started making funny faces, it was time to go home.

Try a visit to the farm area at the Minnesota Zoo!  I was glad my mom could hear the animal sounds.

Fall Toddler Activities

I made this beautiful picture that was my mom’s idea! She is on Pinterest a lot! I liked getting my hand painted. It tickled.

I got to paint my very own trick or treat bag at Michael’s store! I’ve been washing paint off of my hands quite a bit lately.

I was a pirate! I scared so many people! Arrgh!

I made a special decoration. I like to be dressed for these occasions.

I ate “pumpkin” pizza! Yeah, pizza!

And now I get to go trick or treating!  What a great day.

A couple of years ago, I couldn’t wait to go Trick or Treating, either.

Hurry up, Mommy! Let’s go! Don’t we look great, if I do say so myself?

We hope you had a fabulous Halloween, too!

World Prematurity Day: An Interview About HELLP Syndrome

Do you know about HELLP Syndrome?

No, that is not a misspelling. HELLP is thought to be a variant of pre-eclampsia, although it may be entirely different. As teachers, we get students with a varied set of background experiences and health conditions. We need to be aware of the issues some families have and may have experienced. I have experienced this syndrome personally as I had HELLP Syndrome and a birthing emergency.

Free Printable Where is Reunion Island

Where is Reunion Island? Do you know? Many children can probably easily find Madagascar on a globe or world map. This mini-lesson will help extend their knowledge to another “nearby” island, Reunion Island, or La Réunion. With a fabulous landscape, volcanoes, adventure sports, and cultural activities, it is also very interesting.

Recipe Cari boucane from Reunion Island

Recipe Cari boucane from Reunion Island

I recently had the pleasure of cooking a traditional meal from the French Reunion Island for some people who have never visited the island. Saffron, thyme, tomato, potato, white rice, garlic, onion, and bacon prepared in the traditional way made a lovely meal and cultural experience for them. It was delicious! I used the recipe I remember from living there.

Pattern Block Play Helps Children Learn Fractions

Playing with Pattern Blocks Helps form the Foundation for Fractions

Here I am putting pieces in a puzzle my own way. The total will still be the same, but I am an original. I’m going to finish this up with two more triangles as I like triangles! That will be six triangles, one diamond, one trapezoid, and a hexagon. So this will be 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6 + 1/3 + 1/2 + 1 = 2 & 5/6 again.

Visiting Eastman Nature Center, So Much to See!

This time we visited Eastman Nature Center in the summer. We started with a walk. I had a planter dish to collect things for a class I was taking. We were collecting things that were no longer living and were OK to pick. We made a fairy house and I played at the center, too.
