Miss Frog Explains Crystals Beginner to Upper Beginner

Miss Frog Explains Crystals Beginner to Upper Beginner

Miss Frog knows about crystals and has written this post for people who might want to learn more. She discusses several crystals. Some crystals are for beginners. Very interesting stress relief!

Sometimes life can be stressful, even for kids; it could have many reasons, such as school, fake friends, etc. Crystals can help aid those feelings! I know it is hard to believe but because of the crystal’s vibrational energy, they can help higher yours! Believe it or not, you tend to try and match someone’s energy level without even realizing it, this is because you want to be ab\le to get along with them, but don’t worry this isn’t a bad thing; therefore you will feel the need to match the energy of the crystal when crystals have high energy for certain scenarios/issues you will want to match that energy and you will feel better. I know this from personal experience. Here are a few crystals to help with certain issues in your life and the level of experience you should have to use them!

How to use them:

You can meditate with them by holding them in your hands and imagine their energy running through your body; make sure you do this in a calm space!
You will need to cleanse and charge your crystals, you can do this in a majority of ways but the most common one being to use smoke to cleanse them, the smoke can be caused by sage or incense, you can charge your crystals with selenite. Those are just some common ways to cleanse and charge them but there are plenty of other creative ways to do it when you put your mind to it!
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I know it sounds crazy that a crystal could possibly make you feel better but if you believe it and give it a chance it will happen!

Elmer’s Christmas by David McKee is a sweet story in the Elmer elephant book series. While the adults work on festive preparations, Elmer takes the young ones up the mountain. Seeing their first snow, they have a fun time. They find a tree they can “easily return.” Good idea! In this story, the baby elephants want to give people gifts, too, not just receive presents. New Home Furniture Decisions and Decor by Morgan

Miss Owl and her family have moved into a new home. Morgan’s Musings (her mom) writes on this site. Today she is sharing some of the furniture decisions and where the items were purchased. We only have links in case people are interested. We hope this information helps some people with their own decisions.
Note: No, we are not affiliates of any store, and no, we do not earn any money for providing these links.

Moving during the holiday season and trying to organize a family was a big challenge.

home-decor-post-by-Morgans-Miracles-furniture-choices-and-more
entryway-small-art-functional-key-rack-for-an-organized-life

First things first, the entryway. Just in case we forget where we live, there is a Minnesota sign at a Marketplace. It is locally handmade, I believe it was in Wayzata, Minnesota. A place for everything and everything in its place is a great way to start out when moving a family to a new home. So the keys have their place here.

console-table-metal-mirror-wall-decor-and-thinker-statue

Walking in the first hall, I added a Faux Marble Console Table, which was $147.18 at Amazon. The Metal and Mirror Wall Decor (in and out of stock FAST!) is my favorite piece of art – absolutely love it. And it was only around $70 when I bought it. The Thinker Statue (silver) is also from Amazon. It was about $30 dollars. This just helps the hall wall area look lovely.

hallway-complete

The hallway is now complete with items mentioned so far, plus the lighting.

table and chairs purchased separately

The table was purchased from Overstock for $1,200 shipped (was on sale at the time and now no longer in stock – that is the link for when it is available – we definitely struggled to find a table that would fit both our style and our needs) no store sells these kinds of tables (and we went to MANY including the main big ones) so we resorted to online searching.

Chairs purchased from Amazon $499 for a set of 6 chairs! Chairs are also very nice quality for the price. Of course, they are not real leather but that is OK.  They are easy to clean and they give a nice little bounce when sitting down!

setting-up-the-new-table

We were faced with a couple of challenges:

  1. Prices, these kinds of tables are very pricey, and wanted to stay around 1k
  2. No stock/delayed shipment – most retailers are still faced with raw material shortage and COVID-related custom issues delaying shipping – So glad I was able to snatch this table when it was still available. We were highly impressed by this table! Superior quality, beautiful glossy coating, it is very HEAVY. It weighs over 300 lbs, the extension leaf is stored under the table and is extremely easy to pull in or out. We were also impressed with the packaging. It was a huge pallet and the craftmanship to package this is massive. You can tell from the “unboxing” that it is very nice.
curtains in the dining room

The curtains are also from Amazon and were $44.99 – they are thick and high quality. Also, they provide black out which is great for privacy and energy-saving!

planters and plants for the fireplace area

The planters purchased from TJMaxx – $29.99 for the tall one and $19.99 for the smaller one. We went to Ikea and picked a couple of favorites for plants – both are Dracaena plants or commonly referred to as “corn plants.” The tall one was $39.99 and the smaller one was $19.99 and they work well together.

New-living-room-furniture

We bought our new living room furniture at Dock 86. We also bought the treatment that covers any bodily fluids or any kind of spills for the next 3 years! If we don’t do a service call, we get 77 dollars back as store credit Not a bad deal!

Miss Owl Has a New Room

Miss owl got a brand-new bedroom upon moving in! Even if she described her room as “too basic” due to no walk-in closet. 😊 Well this will later be available to her when her stepsister goes to college!

Bed (full size) purchased from Amazon for only $159!!!

Comforter and pillowcases + decorative pillows purchased from Amazon. Absolutely in love with it. Extremely soft and the colors are vibrant and beautiful – VERY happy with this purchase

Dresser was purchased from amazon – this is a cheaper quality, but it works and looks nice.

Elmer and the Rainbow Free Printable

Book by David McKee

Elmer and the Rainbow is one of the books in the ELMER series of books by David McKee.
Elmer-and-the-Rainbow-childrens-book
Elmer is a patchwork elephant who has fun and imaginary adventures.  His elephant friends are the usual color, gray.  Elmer is the leader because he thinks about and solves problems.

In this particular book, the rainbow is gray and Elmer wants to give it his colors.  To do that, he has to find where the rainbow touches the ground.  “What are we waiting for?” said Elmer.  “Let’s start searching.” If Elmer gives his colors to the rainbow, will he turn gray like all the other elephants?  Of course not, this is a children’s book.

At the happy ending, his friends ask how he could give away his colors and still have them.  Elmer says, “Some things you can give and give and not lose any.  Things like happiness or love or my colors.”

Chloe and the No Good, Very Sad, Deplorable Pandemic is a coloring book with a short story. As the months of the year pass, the pandemic gets old. For a while, school is at home, then there is hybrid school, then back to regular school, off and on again. It is a difficult time for an eight-year-old girl who happens to be Miss Owl. This paperback coloring book is available on Amazon. Miss Owl has been coloring with her gel pens which could take some time, but the colors and bright and neat. Colored pencils or crayons would also work. The artists for this book are Oxana Cerra of Teacher’s Clipart, and her son, Gabriel. They kindly drew images I requested as custom art. Teacher’s Clipart has previously illustrated my other books.

A Dog for Lockdown Book Teaching Supplement Free

Dog-Lockdown-Irish-BookSecond in the lockdown series by Clare O’Beara, A Dog For Lockdown is a story about a thirteen-year-old boy who lives with his mother in a council house (public housing in Ireland). Dermot skips school an afternoon so he doesn’t know lockdown has been ordered. He stops at a store and gets an uneasy feeling watching shoppers filling carts with items he considers odd, such as toilet paper. The grocer tells Dermot he should be at home. He realizes no kids are in the store or even outside. At home, his mother asks how school was and he lies indicating he was at school. She knew otherwise as schools and many shops were closed. In addition, it is his birthday. Oh, my.

Dog-for-Lockdown-by-Clare-O-Beara-Student-Pack-Feb2021

I like this modern realistic story as the characters are everyday people without pretenses. Dermot and his mother Ann do not own a car so walk to the store and buy as much as they can afford for the foreseeable future. They lug heavy bags home. I like this story for children to realize not everyone has every advantage, and that life can be difficult for others. It would be important for students to realize if they bully another child, the child may have no choice about his or her clothing or living conditions. And, Dermot does get bullied on Facebook. A teacher helps him and we all learn a lesson about online bullies. Dermot’s one friend, Jamie, seems unreliable for much of the story.

Ann has just learned she has pre-diabetes and thinks Dermot is also at risk as they are both eating the same foods. They learn about a healthy diet and both of them feel better. Part of what helps Dermot is a neighbor is taken to a hospital and he then cares for a nice dog, Shelia. Walking the dog helps him look better.

The story has several important life lessons for students.

Her parents and brother are home, too.  She can hear neighbors cleaning to be prepared in the event they will be sick. Her own parents leave to shop for food, and although they might not get everything they want, will be able to get food. The store is only allowing 100 people inside at a time.

Kingdom of Back Book Review by I. Reid

Kingdom-of-Back-by-Marie-Lu-Review-by-iReid

Dear Reader,

We have all heard fairy tales, popularized by Disney about princesses and animal sidekicks. Then there are faery tales which are often much darker, more akin to the fairy tales told by the Brothers Grimm.

Faery tales tend to fall into one of two camps. There is the benevolent and better than humans in every way camp led by JRR Tolkien. The other camp is the beautiful but malevolent and best to be avoided camp. This camp is led by folk tales of Europe. It can be seen in tales like that of the Erlkoenig (the Elf King). I will not say which one this concerns, as I do not want to spoil the surprise for you, dear Reader.

Best-selling author Marie Lu has brought faery tales, historical fiction, coming of age, and the journey of finding your truest self into a single tale, The Kingdom of Back. The Kingdom of Back is set in Europe in the tumultuous decades before the American and French Revolutions. The story is told through the viewpoint of Maria Anna Mozart, the elder sister of better-known Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which is intriguing in itself.

While the tale is rooted in reality, as the Mozart children did invent the Kingdom of Back, there are historical inaccuracies in the tale. I realize this is historical fiction so it’s permissible; you the Reader should just not think this accurately describes events and their order.

What is glossed over although briefly hinted at in the story is the radical change creeping through Europe at the time. It was during this period of empire building and the Enlightenment that the groundwork for the later cataclysms of the World Wars were laid. People were no longer content to be treated longer like chattel by aristocracy. This was an unsettling time for Europe as the old societal structure began to change. In the American colonies, discontent was fomenting, casting long shadows of the American Revolution and French Revolution to come.

My other main criticism is the lack of detail. Maria Anna Mozart’s voice comes through clearly enough, as does a description of the Kingdom of Back, but the rest of the story focuses more on actions and less on descriptions. To be fair to author Marie Lu, this is a criticism I level at most modern authors. Nowadays we get excruciating detail or too little.

The criticisms however did not detract from the story. Overall it was a charming and enjoyable read, and I hope that you too find it to be so. The story is not too long but not a novella either. My particular favorite of the story were the antics of Wolfgang Amadeus. Wolfgang Amadeus was mischievous as an adult; his misadventures as a child are amusing.

But your sympathies are meant to lie mainly with Maria Anna, or as she was known as a child, Nannerl. Nannerl is given a fairly modern inner voice, which may or may not be accurate. Nannerl’s inner voice is strong giving us insight into her hopes, dreams, and how she viewed the world. Most of all, what it might be like to be the sibling of one such as Wolfgang Amadeus, one so incandescent all else is washed out by their light.

Until next time, dear Reader.

Sincerely yours,

I. Reid

Little Art City on the Prairie: Impressions of Faulkton South Dakota

The beauty of the prairie and the loveliness of the area inspired the main author, I. Reid. Faulkton is an example of a city that refused to simply exist (and perhaps become obsolete) and turned to its arts council for ideas.

A Mom: What is an Adoptive Mother? Children’s Book

What is a mother? A mother is the same whether children are adopted or biological. In this story, the child has been adopted. It is written from the viewpoint of the child to help explain mother is the same in any family. Mom helps check under the bed for monsters, reads books, and watches movies with the girl. She does the same things every mother does. Visually, the images show a white mother and an Asian daughter. The main author, I-Reid, has previously written blog posts for this blog, and now she has written her first children’s picture book.

Letter Writing Frames for K-2 Free PDF Download

Letter writing to family and friends is a good second-grade lesson. In this case, a friendly letter from each child written to a grandparent can help form a single topic (schools of yesterday) for a shared research project. The free printable is on our password-protected pages. By subscribing to the newsletter, the updated password will be emailed to you.

Research to Build and Present Knowledge:

Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations).
When I was teaching on a second-grade team, we had a one-day class field study trip to the Cahill School in Edina, Minnesota. Part of the unit was to write letters to grandparents and ask about what schools were like when they were young. We sent letters from school to the grandparents. Of course, children had to share addresses with the teacher. Then, answers were sent back to the classroom. It was so exciting when a letter would arrive and the child could share it with the whole class. It was also a valuable learning experience We not only learned about how schools used to be but the power of snail-mail letter writing. And children looked forward to letters and the class trip.
Alex-Asks-Grandpa-About-the-Olden-Days-A-1940s-StoryAnyway, what prompted this free download idea what the fact some children did not have relatives to write to for this project. Grandparents have maybe passed away or are incapacitated, which made some students very sad. I encouraged my husband to write his book, Ales Asks Grandpa About the Olden Days: A 1940’s Story. It gives information about life in the 1940s and is written in a “grandpa voice” so that children can learn what life was like at that time. The blog post about the book is here, and it is available on Amazon here. The Lexile Level is 700L.
The printable does not require the use of the book. Other books or family stories could save the same purpose to motivate writing a friendly letter. There are two parts with letter writing frames and also a word wall included in the PDF.

Mom and Dad Writing Stems PDF Download Freebie

A Mom and A Dad Writing Stems

My daughter wrote a little book for me for Mother’s Day and we published it with art by Pieter Els. I thought children might like to use her format with writing stems like:

A Mother is someone who . . .

A Mother waits patiently when . . .

A Mother understands . . .

So I created a PDF with these stems for both mothers and fathers, and added some pages for other family members, as well. Students might like to color and write on one or more pages. If several pages are completed, they could be stapled together as a little book. Some pages are intended to be covers, and some are for “interior” pages. So this could be assigned a page a month, and by May assembled together as a Mother’s Day booklet. I think it is always nice when children make something for Father’s Day before the end of the school year, so there are identical pages for Dad. Or, perhaps only one page is wanted, so just print what page or pages you want for your children or class.

The PDF opens at the next link:

a-mom-and-a-dad-writing-stems-to-make-a-booklet

Below, please find my Mother’s and Father’s Day graphing math centers and some other printables for those days.

The book A Mom would be nice to have on hand so children could apprentice themselves to my daughter’s writing ideas, however, it is not required for use of this PDF. My daughter wrote quite a different book about her Father after a trip to his hometown in South Dakota. We used photographs in the book, and have to return to finish taking photos.  Just so you know he wasn’t left out.

I’ve shown a few of the pages in the PDF, below.

Thank you for reading.

Carolyn
