Teen Slang from One Who Knows

teen-slang-from-one-who-knows-information

I found this definition of slang online: a type of language that consists of words and phrases that are regarded as very informal, are more common in speech than in writing, and are typically restricted to a particular context or group of people.

I have some arguments for this definition and some things to add! I don’t think slang is very formal. Yes, you wouldn’t use it around teachers or family, but other than that, I don’t think slang is a very informal thing to use. I would like to add that slang is mostly used by teenagers and young adults around the world.

Some popular slang used:
Bro – short for brother, usually used when talking to a friend.
Homie – means friend.
Later – this is less popular, but it’s used as a way to say goodbye; short for “I’ll talk to you later”.
Fire – means someone/something looks great, usually used to show interest.
Gucci – although this isn’t used very often, it means good or cool.
Slay – means killed it, or you did a good job, but in my experience, it is usually used sarcastically.
Cap – a lie, usually used when someone is trying to brag.
Extra – used when you might think someone is doing too much or is too dressed up.
Ghosted – used when someone stops talking to you for months without warning.
Caught in 4k – used when someone is caught in a lie or doing something embarrassing.

Although abbreviations are not technically slang, they are used among the same age group in electronic conversations to shorten typing time.

Lol – laughing out loud
Ttyl – talk to you later
Wyd – what are you doing
Wym – what do you mean
Hru – how are you
K – okay
Ily – I love you
Ilym – I love you more
Ilyt – I love you too
Nvm – never mind
Ofc – of course
Ikr – I know right

Urban Dictionary:

Emojis:
Now moving into our emoji segment, people sometimes use emojis as a way to show emotion in a picture while texting; here is what some of them mean.

Why Ms Frog is a Vegetarian

Hi! Ms Frog here, and I’m here to tell you why I chose to be vegetarian! First off I really care for animals truly, I think they are beautiful creatures and deserve to be treated as such. (Warning! This is all my opinion and if you chose to eat meat I don’t disagree at all!, that is your belief.)

Elmer’s Christmas by David McKee is a sweet story in the Elmer elephant book series. While the adults work on festive preparations, Elmer takes the young ones up the mountain. Seeing their first snow, they have a fun time. They find a tree they can “easily return.” Good idea! In this story, the baby elephants want to give people gifts, too, not just receive presents. And Elmer, a star among the elephants, helps the young ones meet Papa Red. Miss Frog is a star who helps Miss Owl read and create art.

Bitterwine-oath

The Bitterwine Oath

by Hannah West

The Bitterwine Oath was an astonishing read. There is changing plot and emotions, changing feelings, and a happy ending, this book has it all. You can read this book and not get bored, the one thing I will note though is that it is very hard to get into, it doesn’t get to the point fast enough for me personally to be into it. If you have plenty of time on your hands though this should be a good read. If you like witchcraft and and thrillers, this book is for you. It puts witchcraft in a bad light but then the perspective changes. I highly recommend reading The Bitterwine Oath as a longer read if you are between the ages 12-20, I recommend this age range because it has all teenage characters, so it might be hard to relate to the almost all teenage characters otherwise, if that make sense. This link will take you to the Goodreads page with dozens of reviews.

Carolyn’s notes: I also read this book. It is clear and understandable. In my opinion, the book is just too long. But it does seem to be an exciting teen read for the right age group interested in independent characters after a long beginning.

Pride-Premeditation-Austen-Murder-Mysteries

Pride and Premeditation

by Tirzah Price

Pride and Premeditation is a re-do of Pride and Prejudice, I had an amazing time reading it 100% recommend. This book is old fashioned and has great visual imagery. It defeats the standard that women can’t do crime solving while also being somewhat romantic. This book was sold as a somewhat-romantic novel, which it turned out not to be, it was one kiss at the last page, so if romance is what you are looking for I wouldn’t get this book; on the other hand, there is a huge plot twist and curious sisters, so it still is very entertaining, and kind of mysterious. This books about a 16 year old who has a father with a law firm, she wants to work for it but they won’t let her because of her gender, once she solves the case however, they let her work there. Overall this book was a very fun read with a huge plot twist and interesting characters, I think this book could be read by people 12 and above! See more on Goodreads.

Fear-Street-Beginning-Surprise-Overnight

Fear Street: The Beginning

by R.L. Stine

I loved every second of reading this book! This book had such good visual imagery and has very short reads considering it is a series of 4 tiny books. The good part of having it be a mix of 4 stories is that it is all the same kids, or the same high school at least, you get to know the characters very well by the end. This book was definitely a thriller, every last story, every chapter left you at a cliff hanger which just made you even more interested, this book gets a 5 stars from me. My one problem with this book however is that I found myself often reading the bottom of the page first at the end of a chapter simply to see what happens because you know something is going to. I recommend this to people ages 10-16. There is more information on Goodreads.

Silent-Night-Street-Super-Chillers

A Silent Night: A Christmas Suspense Story

by R.L. Stine

This book was an intoxicating read, it had cliffhangers at the end of every chapter, so you get very wrapped up in it pretty quickly. A silent night is a quick read, around 200 pages or so. If you like scary books and certain holidays, this book is for you as it is based around Christmas time! I recommend this book for people 10-15, a very fun read if you are short on time. Find more on Goodreads.

Wilder-Girls-Rory-Power

Wilder Girls

by  Rory Power

This book was okay, it was very hard to get into but once your into it, it is amazing! Wilder Girls is a sad book about an epidemic at a school named Raxter, it is a disease called the Tox, it causes a bunch of ailments to the girls of the school and can make you turn grey! It has great description of everything so this is a very easy book to envision. I liked this read, it was fun, it was kind of sad in a way because of the deaths from the Tox but overall has a baseline of strong connections with others. I recommend this book for people 12-17. More information about this title is available on Goodreads.

Carolyn’s Notes: I also read this book. The Tox is terrible but limited to an island with the Raxter school and not much else. Friendships are very important to the protagonists. I say  it is “worse than the curse” as the Tox seems to be based on female hormones. There are only two kisses in the book for parents who may be wondering.

Duluth Minnesota Great Lakes Aquarium Visit

Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth Minnesota

Miss Owl and Ms. Frog visited the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, MN. From interactive displays, to videos, to a scuba diving Santa, it was pure educational fun. They did take their parents with, of course, and everyone learned new things.  Although I’ve been to Duluth about a hundred time or more since childhood, we frequently drive through. For one thing, the aquarium was only built in 1989. It began when Lake Superior Center incorporated as an organization devoted to freshwater education. It opened its doors in 2000 on the waterfront. Driving through with a car loaded for the cabin made stopping by difficult. A special trip is best to fully enjoy the visit. There are many lovely hotels and restaurants along the shore, such as Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory where I held an owl and hawk by adopting them.

School groups visit, and there are teacher workshops and resources to access.

Ms Frog on Why I Chose to be Vegetarian

I think the meat industry is corrupt and here are a few reasons why.

•Most animals awaiting death are being kept in awful unhealthful conditions such as wrong habitat set ups, hot weather, and starvation
•Some animals are also in such bad conditions that they have viruses, this is a common thing in animals but it can still spread when they are dead and therefor can be transferred to the humans while eating

cattle-3759987_640 from Pixabay.com

•Some meat industry has direct connections to climate change, many trees and wild life have been plowed down to store the live stock

monkeys-4273153_640 from Pixabay

Animal Cruelty:

•Many many products are tested on animals to see if they will be able to be used for humans, some of these things can result in blindness and many other awful things, and overall it just hurts the animal

monkeys-4273153_640 from Pixabay

On a lighter note though, I simply just never really liked meat, I liked smaller food like Berries. People I looked up were vegan/vegetarian so I gave it a shot and it just stuck. Once you get in the flow of being vegetarian you realize there is much more options out there including eggs, beans, and tofu in the form of a chicken nugget, another example you might have heard of would be impossible burgers.

Really, there are many delicious things to eat other than meat.

Thank you for reading. Ms Frog

Miss Frog Explains Crystals Beginner to Upper Beginner

Miss Frog Explains Crystals Beginner to Upper Beginner

Miss Frog knows about crystals and has written this post for people who might want to learn more. She discusses several crystals. Some crystals are for beginners. Very interesting stress relief!

Sometimes life can be stressful, even for kids; it could have many reasons, such as school, fake friends, etc. Crystals can help aid those feelings! I know it is hard to believe but because of the crystal’s vibrational energy, they can help higher yours! Believe it or not, you tend to try and match someone’s energy level without even realizing it, this is because you want to be ab\le to get along with them, but don’t worry this isn’t a bad thing; therefore you will feel the need to match the energy of the crystal when crystals have high energy for certain scenarios/issues you will want to match that energy and you will feel better. I know this from personal experience. Here are a few crystals to help with certain issues in your life and the level of experience you should have to use them!

Citrine for happiness (beginner crystal)

Citrine for happiness (beginner crystal)

Tigers eye for motivation (upper-beginner crystal)

Rose quartz for self love and kindness (beginner level)

Clear quartz for purification (beginner crystal)

Clear quartz for purification (beginner crystal)

Smoky quartz for taking negative energy and turning it into positive energy (upper-beginner crystal)

Rose quartz for self love and kindness (beginner level)

Green aventurine for luck in school work/good grades (upper-beginner crystal)

Rose quartz for self love and kindness (beginner level)

How to use them:

You can meditate with them by holding them in your hands and imagine their energy running through your body; make sure you do this in a calm space!
You will need to cleanse and charge your crystals, you can do this in a majority of ways but the most common one being to use smoke to cleanse them, the smoke can be caused by sage or incense, you can charge your crystals with selenite. Those are just some common ways to cleanse and charge them but there are plenty of other creative ways to do it when you put your mind to it!
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. I know it sounds crazy that a crystal could possibly make you feel better but if you believe it and give it a chance it will happen!
